A quick note on Substack

GMTK on Substack is changing

Hi there!

This is a quick message for anyone who was supporting GMTK on Substack as a paid backer.

First of all: thank you! Your support means a lot. My YouTube channel and the GMTK Game Jam wouldn’t exist without the support of people like you.

However, I’ve decided to stop taking paid subscribers on Substack.

Simply put, Substack creates a pretty annoying admin headache because the service asks users to do their own tax reporting - and this must be handled across all different countries and regions.

I try to keep the GMTK business as streamlined and simple as possible, and so I’ll be sticking with platforms that require as little admin as possible. Which means going forward, Patreon will be my main spot for crowdfunding.

For those of you who had annual subscriptions to this Substack, I have directed the platform to issue refunds for the remainder of your term. If there are any issues, please contact me and I’ll do my best to sort them out. I’m not in the business of taking money without delivering!

I will continue to post my videos and their transcripts on Substack (it’s very good for Google SEO!), so please feel free to keep your free subscription.
